最後におまけとして簡単な英語版を載せてみました。もし好評なら次回もやっていきたいと思います (As a bonus, I’ve included a simple English version at the end. If it’s well received, I’d like to do it again next time.)
Even though I am a big fan of Tora-san and have seen all 52 episodes, I have never been to Shibamata.
I decided to go to Shibamata for a day trip because I thought it would be a disgrace to be a Tora-san fanatic if I didn’t mention it at least once.
This time, I only went to a limited number of places, so I have woven in plenty of my fantasies that made me feel like I went there, even if it was just my own research, so I have created “The Shibamata Day Trip Compact.”
I hope you will enjoy the parallel world of my imagination, which I have actually visited.
As soon as you leave the ticket gate, a statue of Tora-san appears.
🔴Toraya
Since I came to Shibamata, I had always wanted to visit “Toraya,” so I came here first.
It seems that this was the filming location for the first four movies.
So I wonder if this was also the place for the Hawaiian slapstick?
Yakikusa dango is 150 yen per stick.
I’d like one kusa dango, please.
Hmm, it’s definitely a kusa dango. It looks like nori seaweed
But it’s delicious. I feel like it has a downtown taste
🔵Enjoy the combination of eel and carp at Ebisu-ya
When you think of Shibamata gourmet, you think of eel and carp dishes, but if you’re greedy and want to try both, Ebisu-ya seems like a good choice
It looks like you can enjoy the combination of eel and carp
🔴If you want rice crackers, Tachibana-ya is the place to go
You can call it a Shibamata specialty now
Just looking at the rice crackers in the jar is fun
I also bought two as souvenirs
🔵Kawasen-ya is also included in the Hatobus course
I was planning a Hatobus trip to enjoy Tokyo, and I remember that Kawasen-ya was included in the lunch section of the Hatobus course
Well, that must mean it’s a long-established restaurant. It might be interesting to get here by using the Hatobus
However, the Hatobus route changes frequently, so if you don’t check in advance, the plan may end.
🔵 Virtual ferry boat at Yoyogi Monaka
They sell boat-shaped monaka here, in honor of the Yagiri ferry
Even though I’m not a fan of monaka, I wanted one, but hmm…
🔴 Get a sweet treat at Funabashi-ya, the original kudzu mochi
The famous kudzu mochi shop Funabashi-ya is definitely a place you can’t miss.
It’s located at the top of the approach to the shrine, but it’s a place you’ll want to stop by on your way back. Sweets are good for tired bodies
Here I ordered the black honey kinako for 350 yen and ate it while sitting on a chair in front of the store
It’s the perfect dish for a tired body
Shibamata walking tour course
Once you’ve satisfied your hunger, you’ll want to go sightseeing
🔴 Shibamata Taishakuten
No one would come all this way and leave without coming here
Taishakuten is the place to silence crying children. This is the part where Tora-san is bathing in his first bath and the lady says, “Hmm, I’m in trouble.”
Taishakuten is also known as the “temple of sculptures,” and if you go further in, you can see gorgeous sculptures.
They also sell fortune slips.
🔵Tora-san Memorial Museum
Tora-san Memorial Museum is located very close to Taishakuten.
This is a memorial museum with a realistic feel, with the filming of Toraya, the place where Tora-san always returns to as if he had a homing instinct.
Inside the museum, you can see “Toraya” and the director’s megaphone.
There is also a nostalgic station message board like this.
There is also a diorama of the “Shibamata Taishakuten Approach” corner and a corner where the streets of Taishakuten are faithfully reproduced, the “Born and raised in Katsushika Shibamata Corner,” which is interesting.
🔵The famous “Yagiri Ferry” that appears in the song/Yamamototei
After passing Taishakuten, you will come across Yagiri Ferry. Apparently this is the only remaining boat transportation method remaining in Tokyo
The opposite bank is Chiba Prefecture
If you want to soak in the idyllic mood of the afternoon, it’s worth taking a ride
Near Taishakuten there is Yamamototei, which has a beautiful garden, so if you’re interested, be sure to check it out
🔵 Shibamata Haikara Yokocho and Shibamata Toy Museum
Shibamata Haikara Yokocho is about a one-minute walk from Shibamata Station, and on the second floor is the Shibamata Toy Museum, which is only open on weekends and holidays
